As our lacrosse club begins to firm up plans for Summer 2012 competition, we're proud of the coaching staff that is coming together. Here is a sample of just some of the coaches who have already committed to working with our teams this summer:
Justin Smith
Co-Founder, Coach, and Clinics Organizer
Justin is a professional lacrosse player with the Chesapeake Bayhawks. He is a two time Major League Lacrosse World Champion with the Philadelphia Barrage. He's a three-time NCAA champion from Salisbury University and two-time All-American. In 2005 he was voted the player of the year for NCAA Division III Lacrosse, as well as the Midfielder of the year 2005. Entering his 8th year in the MLL in 2012, Smith has well over 100 points in his MLL career and is considered one of the leagues fastest players. In his spare time he loves to develop the next generation of great lacrosse players. Sponsored by Code Blue Recovery Drink, Smith Optics, Mueller Corporation, and Pop Chips, Coach Smith is transcending the culture of the typical lacrosse player and working to get the professionals in the mainstream audience.
Kris Weaver
Director of High School Programs and Head Coach HS Varsity
Coach Weaver is currently Head Coach at St. Vincent Pallotti Preparatory School in Laurel, MD. As a player, Kris was a four-year starting defenseman/LSM at Pallotti, and was also a four-year letterman in Football. He was honored as the Laurel Leader Male Athlete of the year in both 1997 and 1998, and was later inducted into the Pallotti Athletic Hall of Fame. He went on to be a four-year starter in lacrosse at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA, earning All League honors in the very competitive DIII Centennial League. He has coached in several different youth and high school leagues, including several years in the Laurel Boys & Girls Club recreational boys lacrosse program. Later he was an Assistant Coach at Pallotti for several years, and helped lead the team to the conference championship in 2006. He was named Head Coach in December 2010, and is rapidly building another power-house program at the small Catholic School in Laurel.
Joe Figola
High School Coach
Coach Figola was All-Ohio in high school, as a star attack on Medina High School's Varsity Lacrosse team. He went on to a successful collegiate career as a four-year starter at McDaniel College playing mainly at the midfield position. He is a seasoned lacrosse coach having held Assistant positions at South Carroll and Archbishop Curley High Schools, and continues to play in adult leagues even today. Coach Figola has also spent several years as a certified lacrosse referee at both youth and high school levels, giving him a unique perspective as both a coach and referee. In January 2011 he was named an Assistant Coach at St. Vincent Pallotti Preparatory School, where he is helping build a strong program and shaping the college stars of tomorrow.
Rob Weaver
High School Coach
Coach Rob is a 2001 graduate of St. Vincent Pallotti and younger brother of BWW-East co-founder Kris Weaver. As a four-year starting attack at Pallotti Rob scored over 250 points, and was inducted into the Pallotti Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. Rob went on to play four years at McDaniel College, compiling an impressive 151 assists and 78 goals, putting him ranked at 7th all time points scored for the Green Terror and #1 in assists all time for the Centennial Conference. Coach Rob began coaching immediately after High School, working with the Laurel Boys & Girls Club recreational lacrosse program, and was named an Assistant Coach at St. Vincent Pallotti Preparatory School in January 2011, directing the attack and helping shape the offense at Pallotti.
Gary Hahn
Director of Youth Programs and Head Coach U13
Coach Hahn is a 1986 graduate of Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, where he lettered in football, as the starting varsity quarterback; and baseball as the starting varsity catcher. Coach Hahn played his youth lacrosse with the Prince Georges lacrosse club. He graduated from the University of Maryland College Park, and was named Captain of the Rugby Team in 1990. He continues to play lacrosse in various Men's recreational leagues, and most often can be found running midfielder on the competitive Breakers team in the Maryland Men's Masters League and the Diehards of the Men's Grand Masters League. He has been commissioner of the Bowie Boys & Girls Club recreational boys lacrosse program since 2006, and along with his wife Tracy have single-handedly built it into a power-house recreational program feeding future lacrosse superstars into a number of elite high school and college programs. Gary is Vice President of the Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (SMYLA), and is director of the Mid-Maryland Indoor Lacrosse League (MMILL) that recently started-up and plays winter indoor games in Greenbelt. He has coached youth lacrosse at every level from 4-5 yrs old up to and including high school, including his most recent addition to the resume as Assistant Coach for the St. Johns College High School Junior Varsity team.
Michael Baccala
Assistant Coach, U13
Coach "Boc" has been at the center of lacrosse in Prince George's County for more than two decades, coaching dozens of club and recreational teams from U11 to High School Varsity. He was the first-ever commissioner of the popular Southern Maryland Youth Lacrosse Association (SMYLA) and Bowie Boys & Girls Club lacrosse program from 1991 to 2001. During that time he was also an assistant and later head coach for Bowie High School's club team for several years. In 2004 he became a certified lacrosse referee and has officiated all levels of youth and high school lacrosse. Coach Boc played club level lacrosse with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), and currently plays for the Die Hards in the Men's Grand Masters League. In December 2011 Boc was named Head Coach for the Bishop McNamara High School lacrosse program and is preparing for his inaugural season with the Mustangs.
Ricky Orndorff
Co-Head Coach, U15
Coach Ricky will be graduating from Hood College in May 2012, and started all 16 games last season at attack for the Division III school in Frederick. A graduate of Landsdowne High School in Baltimore County, Ricky started on varsity all 4 years and was a captain and the MVP his Junior and Senior years at Landsdowne, and was the Arbutus Times Athlete of the Year in 2008. He has played club lacrosse for the Baltimore Elite, the Celts, and ESP (Edgemere Sparrows Point). Coach Ricky started playing lacrosse at the tender age of 7, playing on teams such as the Cobra's and Buccaneers. When he was 12, he played on a select team that participated in a US lacrosse tournament in New York.
Mike Lancaster
Co-Head Coach, U15
Coach Lancaster is wrapping up his college career at Hood College as he pursues a teaching degree, but enjoyed two dynamic seasons for Hood as a defender. Mike played high school lacrosse for Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, MD from 2006 to 2008, where he won a coaches award Junior Year and was appointed captain during senior year. Coach Lancaster started playing lacrosse with the Bowie Boys & Girls Club and has played on several club teams throughout his playing career.
Nick Spurgeon
Assistant Coach, U15
Coach Spurgeon is a 1997 graduate of Archbishop Spalding High School where he lettered in football as a wide receiver, cornerback, and the punter/placekicker. A well rounded athlete, Coach Spurgeon also lettered in hockey and baseball, and played many years of competitive basketball and soccer. Nick has been coaching youth sports since 1997, providing instruction with the Anne Arundel Youth Soccer League Association, the Bowie Boys and Girls Club, and the Archdiocese of Washington CYO. He has successfully instructed young players in lacrosse, basketball, soccer, baseball, and football. Coach Spurgeon emphasizes on and off field player development. He has dedicated his career to working with local youth and adult sports associations and currently works with 30 sports leagues advocating programs & resources development and enhancement. He has coached youth lacrosse at the U13 & U15 levels and brings with him a wide scope of sports background.

BOYS
U9 Head Coach: Jason Bailey
U13 Head Coach: Dave Daniecki
I started playing rec ball at Fallston in the 1st grade. I continued to play rec ball until I started attending Loyola High School. At Loyola High School, I played all 4 years and was an all-metro player. I received a scholarship to attend Penn State University. I played all 4 years there, winning the Lockhart award for 3 years which was awarded to the team's best defensive player. My junior and senior years I was elected a team captain and was an all American those same 2 years. After graduating, I was drafted to the Baltimore Thunder and played 4 years for them. When the pro outdoor league was formed I was selected to play for the Baltimore Bayhawks and played for them another 4 years and won 2 championships with the team. I started doing MMA full time and just helped out here and there in different leagues and with different children's teams.
JV Head Coach: Jason Sterner
Coach Jason graduated from Perry Hall High School in 2001. During that time, he was captain of his lacrosse team and played midfield. He is a 2005 graduate of Stevenson University. While there, he was a four-year starting midfielder and also was the starting face-off player. Jason was also a member of the TriCerat club lacrosse team that participates in the American Lacrosse League for spring lacrosse and Baltimore Indoor Lacrosse League during the winter season.
Jason has been coaching recreation lacrosse for the past 7 years at multiple age levels. He first started at Overlea Recreation, coaching 9-10 and 11-12 boys lacrosse. He then moved on to coach Perry Hall boys 11-12 A team. He is the current 13-14 Perry Hall boys coach. Jason has also been the head coach in one of the premier High School Fall Ball leagues, Overlea Fall Ball, for the past 7 years. Overlea fall ball teams consist of players from different schools such as Calvert Hall, Loyola, Curley and Hereford to name a few. He coaches because he loves the game and enjoys passing down his knowledge to the next generation of lacrosse players.
JV Assistant Coach: Matt Wickman
Matthew is currently the Girls Varsity Head Coach at Kenwood High School located in Baltimore County. He was the Boys Varsity Assistant Coach from 2009 to 2011 at Eastern Technical High School. Matthew has coached numerous Rec teams at the Middle River Rec Council (located in Baltimore County). He spent many summers working at camps at Gilman School and Park School, to name a few. While attending St. Mary's College, Matthew played midfield. During the 4 years he attended Eastern Tech High School, he was a Varsity starter. Currently, he holds the record for career points at Eastern Tech High School. Due to his leadership skills on and off of the field, Matthew was the Team Captain for both his junior and senior high school seasons. Also, Matthew was very successful on the Eastern Tech High School soccer team.
GIRLS

U S Lacrosse Registered Coach. Cobra Lacrosse U11A Coach. Howard County Youth Lacrosse Program. Coached and Coordinated Youth Sports in Howard County, Baltimore County and Baltimore City for over 28 yrs. Director, U-13 Coach. Also has worked at several youth Lacrosse camps over the years . Has coached Girls and Boys AAU and Travel Basketball for several years . Past Board Member of HCYP Travel Sports Program.
West Coordinator: Christine Borden
Christine has coached sports for 12 years. She started out in Baltimore County for 3 years and continued in Howard County for the past 9 years. She was Age Group Coordinator for Howard County Rec and Parks for 4 years, as well as coached juniors for 4 years and has Coached the JV Glenelg girls Indoor league. She has been an Youth Administrator for the past 12 years for basketball, soccer, lacrosse boys and girls of all ages. In addition, she was the registrar for WHC Soccer program for 4 yrs with 2500 kids in the program.
Christine's kids have played for Warhawks Football (team mom 3 yrs) Warhawks field hockey, Western Howard County Basketball (team mom and book keeper, tryout coordinator) and Soccer (registrar, coach, snack shack), Cobra Lacrosse (team mom for 5 years)
Assistant Head Coach : Marc Kolp
Marc joins the Club having coached youth sports for more than 15 years. Marc has served as Coach and Age Group Coordinator for the Howard County Lacrosse Program multiple years helping coordinate more than 200 players in specific age groups, selecting coaches and managing team and parent relations. Marc is a current and founding Board Member for the Ellicott City Patriots Football and Cheer Program where he serves as Vice President and volunteers as a coach. Marc has also coached with SAC, HCYP Basketball and currently works with the Centennial High School Varsity boys lacrosse team in their off-season HEROS and fall club teams.
Marc played college football and rugby, holds a BA in elementary education and a MA in Organizational Management. He currently works as the Bureau Director for Team and Organizational Development at Columbia Association where he has worked for 15 years. Through his work for CA and with other youth sports programs, Marc has designed and facilitated multiple learning/training programs for coaches, camp counselors, personal trainers, volunteers and parents who want to improve their effectiveness in working with or coaching young people.
Marc is a 2011 graduate of Leadership Howard County and received the Howard County Good Sports Coaches Award from Howard County Recreation and Parks in 2009.
Speed and Agility Coach : Phil Johnson
